Artist Research – John Piper

John Piper (1903-1992) was a painter and printmaker, whose work is centred around English landscapes and church buildings and monuments in particular. He was also an official World War II artist, and has a varied, expressive painterly style.

I also came across Piper’s collage-based pieces I had not seen before which are much more focussed around landscape scenery with a variation of juxtaposing textures, even including printed text. I really like these as they have lots of atmosphere and lead the eye around the page.
