Durrell Wildlife Conservation Trust

With my friends from the UK visiting Jersey, I took another visit to the Durrell Wildlife Conservation Trust for a fun few hours at the zoo.

This is easily one of my favourite places in Jersey for photography as a lot of the enclosures allow you to get really close to the animals and habitat vegetation. It also gives a welcome change from the beach scenes of Jersey which, though obviously picturesque and breathtaking, can sometimes feel ‘samey’.

My 50mm lens on my Canon DS1100 makes macro photos of plants especially effective as the high depth-of-field creates a tropical, jungle feel. I’ve recently found myself obsessed with the trend of plant, cacti and wild flowers illustrations which seem to be everywhere at the moment; I’ve tried to create images that have a different perspective/approach to the popular subject.
